Key term: THINKING CREATIVELY ( or CREATIVE THINKING) - coming up with new and unique ideas.
Developing a unique idea can give a new business a competitive advantage. This means it is not easy for a competitor to copy an idea, or imitate a product or a method of working. Having a competitive advantage means that a business is better in at least one way than other businesses with which it is in direct competition.
Key term: COMPETITIVE ADVANTAGE - an advantage a business has that enables it to perform better than its rivals in the market and which is both distinctive and defensible.

Key term: LATERAL THINKING - thinking differently to try and find new and unexpected ideas.
This is about producing ideas that people would not come up with during their normal day-to-day lives. It can be described as 'thinking outside of the box'. Two methods of this are blue skies thinking and six thinking hats.
Key term: BLUE SKIES THINKING - a technique of creative thinking where participants are encouraged to think of as many ideas as possible about an issue or a problem.
One method of doing this is to start with an idea or an object or a question. You then put down all of your thoughts about this idea. If the school wanted to create a new backpack for all students, what thoughts come to mind?
Blue skies thinking involves putting all ideas down on paper. 'Six thinking hats' is a technique that helps organise and focus those ideas. It involves thinking about a particular idea from several different viewpoints.
